Côr Cymru 2024
S4C is proud to announce Côr Cymru 2024 - the competition with a first prize of £4,000. Wales boasts a long tradition of fine choral singing, and this competition aims to raise the standard even further. The competition is organised by Rondo Media and the semi-final and final rounds will be recorded by Rondo Media for broadcast on S4C. There are five categories: Children’s Choirs 16 years of age and under, Youth Choirs under 25 years of age, Mixed Voice Choirs, Equal Voice Choirs (Female or Male) and Show Choirs.
Show choirs should present a contrasting repertoire of music, for which all aspects of performance will be taken into consideration for judging, including choreography, storytelling, and entertainment, with a particular focus on musicianship and vocal/ choral technique. The style typically ranges from pop tunes to musicals and jazz standards. It is encouraged for one number of the set to be performed a cappella.
Following a series of auditions across Wales, up to 4 choirs in each category will be invited to appear at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre during the weekend of February 16th – 18th 2024. Each choir that reaches the semi-finals will receive £500 and the winners of each category will receive a further prize of £1,000.
The main points to note are:
5 categories – children’s, youth, mixed, equal voice and show choirs.
For the sound recordings in November 2023, choirs are required to perform a programme of 6 – 8 minutes of music.
Semi-finals February 16th – 18th 2024
Final Sunday May 12th 2024
Winning the category does not guarantee a place in the final.
A panel of judges will choose 5 choirs from the semi-finals weekend to proceed to the final.
In addition to a prize for the best conductor in the competition there will be an award for the best performance by a choir from the semi-finals who is not selected to perform in the final.

Mae S4C yn falch i gyhoeddi Côr Cymru 2024 – cystadleuaeth gyda gwobr gyntaf o £4,000. Mae gan Gymru draddodiad hir a llewyrchus o ganu corawl, a nod y gystadleuaeth yw cynnal a chodi’r safonau hynny. Trefnir y gystadleuaeth gan gwmni Rondo Media a bydd y rowndiau cyn-derfynol a’r rownd derfynol yn cael eu recordio gan Rondo i’w darlledu ar S4C. Mae pump categori yn y gystadleuaeth: Corau Plant 16 oed ac o dan Corau Ieuenctid o dan 25 oed Corau Cymysg Corau Lleisiau Unfath (Merched neu Meibion) Côr Sioe (cantorion sy’n cyfuno canu a llwyfannu) lle mae pob agwedd o’r perfformiad yn cael ei gymryd i ystyriaeth wrth feirniadu gan gynnwys coreograffi, dweud stori ac adloniant gyda ffocws arbennig ar allu cerddorol a thechneg lleisiol. Mae’r arddull yn ymestyn o gerddoriaeth pop i sioeau cerdd i jazz. Anogir corau i ganu un darn o’r set yn ddigyfeiliant. Yn dilyn cyfres o glyweliadau sain led led Cymru gwahoddir hyd at bedwar côr ym mhob categori i ymddangos yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddyau Aberystwyth ar benwythnos Chwefror 16eg – 18ed 2024. Bydd pob côr sy’n cyrraedd y rowndiau cyn-derfynol yn derbyn gwobr o £500 a bydd enillwyr y categoriau uchod yn derbyn gwobr ychwanegol o £1,000

Ar gyfer y clyweliadau sain ym mis Tachwedd 2023, angen perfformio rhaglen o 6 – 8 munud o gerddoriaeth.

Ni fydd ennill y categori yn gwarantu lle yn y rownd derfynol.

Yn ogystal â gwobr i’r arweinydd gorau, bydd gwobr am y perfformiad gorau gan gôr sydd ddim wedi ei ddewis i gystadlu yn y rownd derfynol.
